Although she was a school teacher (in a one-room school), she wasn't my school teacher. She was a mentor and teacher of life lessons for me. When I was cutting all of these strips into paper and laying them all over the floor to prepare for an activity once, she asked me what in the sam hill I was doing. I told her I was getting a fraction lesson ready. She told me.... "The only things you need to have in order to teach fractions, is an apple and a knife." And she was right, of course. We celebrated her 100th birthday. I was lucky to have over 30 years with this wonderful lady. My best teacher was my grandmother.
